The Homesteads Defense Association (HDA) is a non-profit  Association, formed in part, to protect the living conditions of the residents of Cumberland County,TN.   The first action of the HDA is to oppose the construction and operation of a garbage transfer station in the Historic Homesteads community in Cumberland County.

The applicant has  obtained a permit from the issuing agency.

The HDA is doing all things possible to fight the building of the transfer station by preparing a law suit, using environmental laws, and direct appeals to the Governor, our State Senators and Representatives.

Under the current State law and regulations a person may be issued a permit to construct a garbage transfer station in any community it chooses – as long as it satisfies 23 regulatory requirements.  None of those regulatory requirements allow input from local official or the citizens that will ultimately be affected!!!!

Please join this organization and help us in the fight for the preservation of our neighborhoods, environment, and cultural and historic heritage.
